Substance Use: Not Another Talk About Risk Factors
Most of us are aware of the risk factors associated with first responders and substance abuse. This training empowers first responders to better understand and address substance abuse through the lens of how it affects the body and mind. We will explore how addiction affects the brain, recognize the psychological impact of chronic stress and trauma, and learn evidence-based approaches to support peers, loved ones, and more. Emphasis is placed on building emotional intelligence and practical communication skills, including how to navigate tough, stigma-laden conversations—starting with ourselves. Through real-life scenarios and interactive discussions, responders will leave better equipped to identify warning signs, reduce shame, and foster a culture of openness, resilience, and support within their teams and communities.
This training is open to ALL first responder staff, please share with your agencies. Peer Support Specialists are required to pick one of the three options to attend.
